Pupil Feedback
"What we learn in the classroom feels more real now that we can see how it works in the real world"

"Forestry and Rural Skills were great for me. Then I had a work placement. That's when I knew I wanted to be a gamekeeper.
And now I am."

Career Mentoring

Working with business and community partners is an integral part of the Queensberry Initiative. One of the key aspects of our partnership programme is our career mentor scheme. Currently we have 21 trained Career mentors; they have received training in aspects of mentoring as well as child protection. As volunteers, they are asked to give one to two hours per month to support two or three young people from years S4, S5 and S6.

Students who apply to be mentored complete an application form clarifying their reasons for asking to be included in this programme. Many of them are seeking support with personal statements for applications to college or university; most want advice with Curriculum Vitae and interview skills. Pupils see that an adult with experience of the world of work will help them to shape a career plan and gain the self-awareness and confidence they require to make a good transition to the next stage of education or work.

We are always interested in recruiting new, potential mentors. If you think you would like to learn more about this scheme, please contact us for further information.
